January 2009 Newsletter

Art Shows

January is typically a slow month for shows and this year is no exception. The only show I'm doing is the New Orleans Arts Market. But I'm busy none the less preparing for the spring shows and doing applications. For the upcoming shows, I'm hand making 8 x 10 frames and painting them to match the images. The idea is to create smaller, less expensive pieces that are ready to hang. By doing the frames myself I'm able to keep the cost of the framed piece at $45. I'm doing a representative sample of my better selling pieces along with some interesting smaller subjects inappropriate for larger frame sizes but ideal as an 8 x 10. Attached is a representative sample of what I've done for the upcoming shows.

I juried into the New Orleans JazzFest scheduled for the second weekend April 30–May 3 in the Louisiana Marketplace. I'm excited being accepted and will be spending the month of March preparing pieces for the show. The only downside is that the second weekend conflicts with FestForAll and I had to cancel that show. I'm sorry I'll be missing my customers at that show. As usual I'll be applying to the Red River Revel in Shreveport and to Three Rivers Art Festival in Covington, I'll send out another newsletter later in the year keeping you informed about which shows I will be doing.

A reminder, the book I produced on Blurb, with 74 of my Louisiana images is available.

I've updated my webpage with the schedule for the first six months of 2009.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the shows this year.
